New Milford Public Library will be closed, Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day. Sunday, May 27th is the first day of our Sunday closings which go until October. Take the opportunity to browse our online magazine collection, accessed through our e-library.

NMPL Awarded ALA Grant  

New Milford Public Library will receive a grant from the American Library Association (ALA) and PBS to host programs around “The Great American Read,” an eight-part television series and multi-platform initiative that celebrates the joy of reading and the books we love.

 “We are so grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this initiative by PBS and ALA. Our programming plans should have broad appeal.”

 More than 220 public libraries applied for the $2,000 grants, which will support public programs around the series. New Milford Public Library was one of just 50 libraries nationwide to be selected. 

The library’s programming for “The Great American Read” will begin with streaming of the Premier on May 22, at 8:00 PM at the library. “The Great American Read” will engage audiences with a list of 100 diverse books, encouraging audiences to read the books, vote from the list of 100, and share their personal connections to the titles. See it live on the big screen at NMPL, starting at 8:00 PM! Other programming will include free raffles for copies of the books, an author talk, a discussion forum, an end of program party, and other fun events!

Kenn Morr Band  

Wednesday, June 6th 6:30 PM

Enjoy an organic collection of lush, three part vocal harmonies and sparkling instrumentals–real musicians playing soulful music in real time.  The band features Kenn Morr who is the leader and songwriter, violin virrtuoso, Tom Hagymasi and melodic bassist/vocalist, Pat Ryan. The Kenn Morr Band is touring in support of its latest release, “Along the Way, recorded at Sandy Brook Studios in Colebrook, Ct.  The album features ten new songs penned by Morr and highlighted by the cohesive playing of the Band.

Experience Your Nature as Healer

Are you seeking inspired guidance and restoration with your daily life?  Join Marlow Shami as she presents an experiential program on using your nature as a healer.  The wisdom of elder/earth based cultures as well as recent empirical research of ecopsychology, environmental psychology and mindfulness based stress reductucing energy medicine form this program’s foundation.  The program’s talk is illustrated with powerful compelling images, followed by a beautiful guided meditation and one simple outdoor activity.

Cookbook Club 


Wednesday, June 27th 6:30 PM

Summer is here! Come and take a culinary road trip this month and choose recipes available from each of the 50 states. If you enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, join our Cookbook Club. The group meets monthly from 6:30-7:30 pm. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share from that month’s cookbook..

We are growing by leaps and bounds.  Come and try out the many recipes from a different book each month. 

May’s Cookbook night will be on Thursday, May 24th at 6:30 PM, so come and get a recipe.

For those of you who couldn’t make our 6 PM on Wednesday Game Night, we’ve added the second Saturday at 1 PM in New Milford.  When we have the Saturday Game Club, we don’t have the previous Wednesday.

Stop in and play some of our games or bring one of your favorites to share with new friends.

Our Digital Services associate is on temporary leave.  Due to budgetary constraints, our tech classes will be temporarily suspended.  We still have tech help available with our volunteers and our reference associates, so come on in with your questions.  


CT Crossroads is Back

Tuesdays  ll:30 AM to 12:30 PM

We will again sit down with residents and groups to record their take on what has connected them to the place they call home.  Help us capture what New Milford is like now and what it was like in  your past by recording your memories.  It is called the Crossroads because it is where personal memory meets public history.
